VOLUNTEER

Volunteer Opportunities

FRONT OF HOUSE

The Memorial Centre hosts concerts, dance recitals, children’s shows, theatre, comedians, and many other public events. Our volunteers act as ushers, ticket takers, concession workers, and sometimes merchandise sellers for these various events. Our Front of House Manager works closely with all of these volunteers to ensure that everyone has a position that complements their skills and interest.

We also provide Front of House staff for Central Alberta Theatre productions in Studio Theatre next door. The theatre requires ushers, ticket takers and a concession volunteer.

PERKS TO front of house VOLUNTEERING

One of the benefits of being a Front of House volunteer in the Memorial Centre is that you’re able to see the concerts and shows that you work – at no charge.

Front of House volunteers in Studio Theatre get to stay and watch the production that they’re working on.

OTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

THEATRE PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE WITH CENTRAL ALBERTA THEATRE

In 1994, in a mutually beneficial lease agreement with the City of Red Deer, Central Alberta Theatre (CAT) took over the operation of the 704-seat Memorial Centre. CAT started as a community theatre company in 1970, making it now one of the oldest non-profit, volunteer-based community theatre companies in Canada.

The CAT Studios addition to the east of the Memorial Centre was completed in 2002 and consists of an intimate performance space with fully-licensed concession called Studio Theatre (a.k.a. Nickle Studio), rehearsal spaces, a workshop and many other areas.

Our production crews for CAT shows are also volunteers. This can include designing, building and painting sets, designing posters and programs, finding or creating props, stage management, acting, directing, hair and make-up, costume design and construction, working as backstage crew, and much more.
