Front of House Manager

We are an active, volunteer-based community theatre and facility operator that requires an energetic, people-oriented and organized person to implement an effective front-of-house volunteer program for Central Alberta Theatre (CAT). This includes the recruitment, support, orientation, training and evaluation of front-of house volunteers, and the recognition/appreciation of all CAT volunteers. It includes managing the front-of-house and bar/concession areas of CAT's Memorial Centre, its Box Office and CAT's Studio Theatre productions. This is a full-time, permanent position. Training is anticipated to start in the third week of August. Evening and weekend work is required.

The position has two overall areas of responsibility:

 1.    Front of House (FOH) and Volunteer Management

This encompasses the operation of the Memorial Centre front of house areas (lobby, auditorium, concession and other public areas):  bar/concession management, event set up and preparation, and supervising and coordinating the volunteer base to ensure coverage of positions during scheduled events such as performances, ceremonies and productions.

This also encompasses management of the bar/concession area of CAT’s Studio Theatre: setting up and preparing the areas and supervising and coordinating bar/concessions volunteers to ensure coverage of positions during scheduled events.

The position will provide ongoing recognition for volunteers and at least two volunteer appreciation events per year, in conjunction with the Production Manager and the Board of Directors and utilizing volunteer statistics gathered.

2.    Box Office Management 

  1. Hire, supervise, schedule, train and evaluate the part-time/casual box office staff

  2. Ensure the completion of approved bookkeeping forms related to box office operation

  3. Ensure ticket sales are processed by phone, email and in person as required

 What You’ll Need

  • skills in problem solving and leadership 

  • knowledge of Word, Excel, databases and other similar programs/apps 

  • Experience using Square as a point-of-sale system is desirable 

  • fiscal aptitude, including cash handling and reconciliation, as well as stock and inventory control

Other Notes 

The position reports to and takes direction from the Board of Directors, as well as from the Technical/Operations Manager. The position is subject to all bylaws and written, Board-approved policies and procedures governing Central Alberta Theatre.
